The Coat of Arms


They take the form of a classical shield, crowned with crenellated towers and bearing in the center a vertical stripe in the colors of Provence (red and gold), with a T (Théoule) superimposed.

Four symbols are represented on an azure field...

    The statue of Sainte Germaine, patron saint of the locality.

    A scorpion fish symbolizes the sea and represents one of the local activities, fishing.

    A branch of mimosa, dripping gold over the hills of Theouli. This gold gives the place a sacred character.

    The Tour de la Batterie, a famous monument that has now disappeared but has been reconstructed at the end of the Théoule harbor jetty, is today's lighthouse.

As for the origin of the name "THÉOU-OULÉ"...

It corresponds to one of the many etymologies of THÉOULE: it comes from the Greek and means WOOD (OULÉ) consecrated to divinity (THÉOS). This explains why tradition has made Théoule the SACRED WOOD.
