A branch of mimosa, dripping gold over the hills of Theouli. This gold gives the place a sacred character. -
The Tour de la Batterie, a famous monument that has now disappeared but has been reconstructed at the end of the Théoule harbor jetty, is today's lighthouse.
As for the origin of the name "THÉOU-OULÉ"...
It corresponds to one of the many etymologies of THÉOULE: it comes from the Greek and means WOOD (OULÉ) consecrated to divinity (THÉOS). This explains why tradition has made Théoule the SACRED WOOD.
