Works and monuments

Discovery... Stroll... Culture... History...

As you wander around or follow a specific route, discover the richness of a unique heritage (see below for a selection of monuments and works of art).

Culture can also be experienced outdoors with ephemeral art exhibitions.

Calou 2024

Light of Liberty, signed by sculptor CALOU, has been enthroned at the entrance to the bay of Théoule-sur-Mer since July 5, 2024, created to commemorate the 80thth anniversary of the Provence Landings.
A symbol of union and freedom, this monumental sculpture complements the many other works of art already on display in the town.
Its copper arm sculpted by metal sculptor CALOU, and its blown glass flame created by glass artist Alexis Mathelin, soaring into the sky, reflect the immense talent of these two artists.

Charles Dahon was the first mayor of Théoule-sur-mer in 1929. The bust was sealed in the Charles Dahon parking lot on the town's 80th anniversary in 2009.

Fortuné Evangélisti - 2013

The work was begun in 1990 and completed in 2013. A shrine and pilgrimage site for the French in Algeria, situated in the middle of the hills overlooking the sea and on the Camino de Compostela pilgrimage route. The statue is 12 metres high, and the crown is 2 metres in diameter. Made of brass, corten steel, stainless steel, glass and enamel, this original work is reminiscent of the Basilica of Saint Eugène in Algiers, which still houses the patron saint of Africa.

Fortuné Evangélisti - 1927

The parish church was built on land donated by the Schleinger family and financed by donations. It was dedicated by the Bishop of Nice, Monseigneur Ricard, on September 14, 1927. The church was named Sainte Germaine de Pibrac by the bishop, whose mother's first name was Germaine. Saint Germaine, born in 1579, lived in Pibrac near Toulouse, where she died in 1601. She was a virtuous little shepherdess, charitable and full of compassion for the poor and sick, even though she herself lived a very miserable life. The newly restored church, with its forecourt, bell wall, steel cross and bronzed metal Christ in 2007, rebuilt building and blue glazed tile roof, was consecrated on October 14, 2018, 91 days to the day after its first consecration.

Nautical jousting, a spectacle of combat on the water, originated in Greece and then under the Roman Empire. It was in the 15th century that they were first practiced on the Mediterranean coast. Théoule's wooden boats date from the 20th century and their bows represent Neptune, the god of the sea.

The monumental stele, visible from the open sea, celebrates the centenary of the birth of General de Gaulle. It was erected on the RD 6098, Pointe de l'Esquillon, on the site where the Groupe Naval d'Assaut de Corse landed on August 15, 1944, enabling the American 141st Infantry Regiment to intervene. The following day, August 16, 1944. Théoule-sur-mer was the first town to be liberated, at the cost of 11 officers' and sailors' lives. A further 19 were wounded and 27 taken prisoner.
